Limitations on vacation rentals

The Mayor of Kaua’i County issued Emergency Rule #5 (Amendment #3) on April 7, 2020, to limit the effects of COVID-19. The rule applies to transient vacation rental properties in Kaua’i County and is effective Friday, April 10 at 11:59 PM until May 3, 2020 (end date may be extended).

We want to alert our partners to this emergency rule. Among other restrictions, the rule mandates that transient vacation rentals and homestays must cease operations, including advertising, for the period identified in the Governor’s proclamation(s).

Current occupants of transient vacation rentals and homestays may stay until the end of their pre-booked period.

The County has stated that violations can be punished as a misdemeanor with fines up to $5,000 or imprisonment of not more than one year, or both.
