Quarantine period reduced from 14 to 10 days

Here are a couple of articles covering Hawaii's adoption of the CDC recommendations for a reduced quarantine period.  Kauai is still requiring quarantine for all visitors at this time. 

New officers and committee chairs

Your AOBO Board of Directors met on Monday for the conclusion of the election started on Nov. 16, the election of new officers, and the assignment of committee chairs.  New dates for meetings in 2020 were also set. 

Let us first congratulate Ben Miller for winning the election for the balance of Alan Hart's seat on the Board.  Alan Hart's seat (and now Ben's) is up for re-election in May 2021.  Thank you to everyone who entered the election as candidates.  It is very encouraging that we had so many qualified candidates for our election this year.  Dave DiMare will be the Nominating Chair for the election in May so you can expect to hear from him encouraging you to run.  There will be 3 seats (as is typical) up for election.

I am excited about the upcoming 6 months with this year's Board's composition and appreciate everyone's support.

I seriously encourage all owners who have any interest in any of these committees to contact Marianne Thesken (marianne.thesken@outrigger.com) or the committee chairs to volunteer for one or more committees.  Homeowner participation and involvement is essential for a better Board!  We need and appreciate your input and contributions!  And so many of you have the experience and expertise that are invaluable!

We also set the dates for the upcoming meetings.  Please put them on your calendars!  Please note that the Board had decided to hold two meetings by zoom rather than in person to reduce expenses which will help to control expenses and hopefully enable a dues reduction.

February 10-12  (will be by zoom)

April 28 - May 3 (on Kauai, hopefully) Annual meeting/elections

August 11-13    (will be by zoom)

Nov. 10-13       (on Kauai, hopefully).

Notwithstanding the fact that the island is now requiring a 14 day quarantine, it was too late for the Finance Committee  to effectuate a dues reduction for January.  However, they are working very hard to try to find a way to reduce fees in February.  Thanks to Dave DiMare, Faye Fernandez, Marianne Thesken and Chris Gampon for their hard work on the budget reductions.  Keep your fingers crossed they are successful (and that the quarantine will be lifted for Kauai).

Because I am now going to be trying to fill Craig Price's very large shoes as President, Barbara Siverts has very kindly agreed to undertake the blog.  I'm pretty sure her postings will be great!  So if you need to get in touch with Barbara, her email is barsiverts@gmail.com.  A new board roster will also be available very soon.

Official information from County of Kauai

 Aloha, 

 

Due to a rapid and alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, Kaua‘i County has imposed a moratorium on its participation in the State of Hawai‘i Safe Travels pre-travel testing program. 

 

As of December 2, 2020, until further notice, all travelers to Kaua‘i must quarantine for 14 days, with no exemptions for pre-travel testing. The mandatory 14-day quarantine will apply to visitors and residents traveling to Kaua‘i from out of state or interisland. 

 

Travelers must follow all State and County rules while under quarantine. Failure to follow State and County rules is a misdemeanor and is punishable by a maximum fine of $5,000 or imprisonment of not more than one year, or both. 

 

The County’s modified quarantine program remains in place for critical infrastructure workers, essential medical travel, or other special circumstances. To apply for a modified quarantine for critical interisland travel, please visit www.kauai.gov/COVID-19 and click on the “modified quarantine request” button at the top of the page. Transpacific travelers seeking a modified quarantine request for critical travel can go to the Attorney General’s website at www.ag.hawaii.gov/travelexemption.
