Aloha Kiahuna Homeowners!

This November at our Annual Homeowners Meeting we will be kicking off our first annual fundraiser, which will benefit the “Kāneiolouma” Historic Site (http://www.Kāneiolouma.org), down Poʻipū Road from our Island homes.  I was approached by a couple of owners suggesting we, the Kiahuna Homeowners, have a fundraiser benefiting a local charity or non-profit organization.  While I do not have a fundraising background, most of you know I am not too shy about asking for money to help out our island family. So you may run and hide, but I shall find you and have my hand out for a donation!!! 

We choose the historic site closest to us as this year’s kick-off fundraiser. Over the last year you may have noticed the Ki’i statues, literally just up the road from Kiahuna, along with the land that has been cleared and the rock walls that have been erected. The site is called, Kahua O Kāneiolouma. It contains remnants of an ancient Hawaiian village at Poʻipū. The complex, presently under the jurisdiction of the County of Kauaʻi contains numerous habitation, cultivation, sporting or assembly, and religious structures dating to at least the mid‐1400’s. Members of the Native Hawaiian group Hui Mālama O Kāneiolouma have unofficially cared for Kāneiolouma for more than a decade. The group has a vision and mission to protect, restore, interpret, and share Kāneiolouma as a public cultural preserve. This is a volunteer‐driven, knowledge‐rich, partnership‐based endeavor which honors the values, traditions, and achievements of Hawaiian ancestors in Kōloa. The intent is to preserve in perpetuity, for all people, the sacred site at Kāneiolouma and ensure that irreplaceable knowledge and heritage are passed on to the future. This project will develop a public cultural preserve integrated within the popular visitor destination of Poʻipū and will represent the only such visitor attraction of its kind on Kauaʻi. Next year’s fundraiser will be submitted by any Kiahuna staff person.  After I have received their suggestions, my committee and I will chose one for 2015.  We believe that our “local family” would have some wonderful suggestions for charities...some we might not have even heard about yet!  Sorry, only Kiahuna staff can submit these entries. 

We will be having a silent auction courtesy of Judy Stupfel and her lovely handmade quilts plus we will have some beautiful photographs courtesy of Roger Mullenhour, Alan Hart and Jim Nahmens!  There will even be a basket of island goodies for the auction. 

You may also just send in a check or cash if you cannot attend the meetings or if you do not win the silent auction items.  The auction will begin at the start of all meetings and close one hour after the end of our last meetings.  Of course, you can beat the rush and send a check either to me (Marie) or Marianne Thesken at the Kiahuna Plantation.  Remember...the end of the year is near and this could be the charity tax write-off you are looking for now.
